How It Works

Each category has a base unit. The tool converts the source value to that base unit, then converts from the base unit to the target unit. Temperature scales use offset formulas instead of simple multiplication. The reference table below the converter is rebuilt from the same local constants, and no conversion request is sent to an external service.

Tips, Edge Cases, or Limitations

  • Use the Data category for binary-style byte units; use the dedicated Byte Calculator when you need side-by-side binary and SI tables.
  • Temperature conversions are not proportional. Swapping Celsius and Fahrenheit changes both scale and offset.
  • Rounded display values are meant for practical use; keep extra precision when doing regulated calculations.
  • Some historical or domain-specific units vary by jurisdiction. Check the governing standard before using them in legal or safety-critical work.
